Our school director has been teaching yoga since 2005, has owned several yoga studios, ran a succsesful yoga festival for 9 years, and has been an adult educator since 2003.

Combining both traditional yoga philosophy with a scientific approach, the training will include a four-step approach. Each one of these steps is building a foundation for the next stage of development in becoming a quality yoga teacher. Using a hybrid method of several learning formats, our program offers the versatility we all need now along with the accountability it takes to develop into the teacher you want to be.

 

In each one of the steps, participants will be required to complete skill tests, written tests, and hands-on demonstration to integrate the material before moving on to the next step. The steps, called blocks, can be taken independently (50 hours each) or in combination to build a better understanding for a total of 200 hours. Along with the training programs, participants will be required to attend 10 hours of studentship. This is a foundation of the I AM Yoga School training where you begin to learn and understand the class formats by experiencing them as a student.

I AM Yoga School is committed to offering a high-quality and effective learning environment with a hands-on and experiential approach to teaching yoga. Vinyasa yoga is not just about what is done on a yoga mat but can be carried out in every action taken. A way of living life. Vinyasa Yoga is about the order, or sequence, of things. Like building a house with a well-thought-out plan, a solid foundation, skilled labor, painters, decorators, and finally the occupants. A great house is never built by skipping steps. Our training plan is about making sure each step is solid before moving on to the next step with the goal of producing professional and knowledgeable yoga instructors.

 

This isn’t your typical yoga teacher training but you can expect: supervised practicum teaching experience in small groups and public classes; a 360-degree view of yoga today and how it can effectively be used in a variety of situations; and a logical glance at how to adapt yoga with a growing population.

MELISSA CAMERON

Melissa began teaching yoga in 2005 after starting her journey as a yoga student in 2000. Melissa has taken training with instructors from all over the world after initially being focused on prenatal and mommy & me yoga, Melissa taught these specialized classes for five years before teaching hatha yoga which then transformed into a love for vinyasa (flow) yoga. With training from many teachers over the years, Melissa hit the jackpot when she found her main mentor, Chrispy Bhagat Singh in Austin, TX in 2013. Melissa and Chrispy hosted their first 200-hour Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training in 2019. Melissa, along with her best friends, hosted the I AM Yoga Festival from 2011 - 2019 before retiring from the yoga festival business.

 

Melissa is the owner of I AM Yoga Studio which opened in 2016 in Tulsa. She teaches around 600 yoga classes per year and has taught over 6,000 yoga classes, facilitated dozens of yoga retreats, workshops, and special events.

 

Melissa has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She is the mother of four boys.

SHANNON COMAN

Shannon first tried yoga in 2008, while I was pregnant with my daughter. She fell in love with yoga immediately and somehow knew she had found her path. The path is sometimes winding and my practice has changed and evolved a lot over the years. Shannon has practiced or at least tried lots of different types of yoga classes, attended countless workshops, festivals, and retreats, and I have had the privilege of helping to plan and execute the I AM Yoga Festival in Tulsa since 2010. In 2019, Shannon decided to go for my 200-hour Vinyasa Teacher Training certification now being offered by I AM Yoga.

Her motto: “I have to have a plan... but I do understand plans are always subject to change.” In addition to yoga, she loves cooking, entertaining, holistic living, interior design, reading books (actual books, not screens), the Lake, hanging out with family and friends, traveling, being a wife and mom, her crazy dog, and good wine.

Shannon is a co-owner of I AM Yoga.
