We will discuss ways that yoga can improve mental health including specific information about the impact of the body and mind connection, the central nervous system, and the many aspects of yoga philosophy. We will discuss recent research that has been done on yoga and mental health and take a deep dive into exactly how it seems to be working. By learning how to regulate the nervous system, many participants in yoga are finding ways to manage life stress and deal with unresolved trauma. Also, we can use yoga as a tool to build resiliency and increase tolerance for distress. The exciting new evidence-based practices are showing a lot of growth for yoga in supporting anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic stress disorder. The course will share a few small yoga pose suggestions along with some simple meditation techniques to support general mental health. No yoga or meditation experience is needed.
